Update

Well, so much has been going on lately around here. For starters, Sophie had (still has actually) a bacteria called impetigo which has affected the toes of her right foot. It all started with a small scratch on her big toe, which in just a few days turned into a complete mess, involving infection, bleeding and swelling of ALL the toes!

This naturally meant taking a few days off work to take care of her, take her to several daily visits to the doctor, and lots of medicines.

Because of this, my headmistress at school (a spinster, whose life is her job at school and taking care of her elderly mother) wasn't too pleased when I phoned to say I would not going to work. Her reaction towards this, naturally, made me feel awful and at fault. I am absent only when my girls are extremely ill... otherwise, I send them to school and pray that I will not be phoned to have to pick them up earlier. I have been to work this year for the past few weeks with angina, bronquitis, a hoarse voice, no voice at all, and a temperature... I am never absent to work if I can avoid it...

So that this woman's bad attitude when I told her the reason for which I HAD to be away from work made me feel guilty beyond words.

So, when I went back to work today (I took Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday off), I was loathing the moment I would have to face her. Quite to my surpise, she was very concerned at my daughter's health, and was worried at the state I was in... I am down with fever and bronquitis at the moment... ( I am hardly ever ill, but so far this year has not been a very good one... hehe)

She asked about Sophie how she was doing, if there had been any improvement... and so on. Who the hell understands her??? I certainly don't!

And the day could not have got better if I had wanted it to... There was a Colombian woman, headmistress at a bilingual school there, who came for a visit to our school to find out more about the MYP and IB programmes (our school was the first one in latin America, some 30 years ago, to start implementing these International Educational programmes). So, this woman came to learn a bit more about them, how to implement them, et al. And guess who was called as the "expert"? Yups... the headmistress had me talk to her for almost all afternoon and to explain to her how to go about it. And after our wonderful afternoon together, my Head congratulated me on how well I had done, and how well I had made the school look to this woman. It made me feel good all over... So, not bad after all, right?

I am really feeling pleased with myself, because I know that the work I do at school is really valued. I have not been working there 25 years for nothing after all, right?
And I have piles of more juicy and great things going on in my life at the moment as well, but those for the time being I will be keeping to myself to enjoy.

Hey, Jean! You're totaly right. Don't tell everyone all the good things that are happening in your life. It's good to keep certain things as a secret. Not because someone can do something bad, but because it's so good to have secrets that only you and a few friends or parents can share... Have a good weekend and send my best regards for you childreen, Isabella.

Besos querida amiga!!!!

Isabella, Thank you for such wise advice... I will ceratinly keep some of the extremely wonderful things happening to me today to myself and to those directly concerned with it!! Wish you a great weekend too! And thank you so much for th regards for my daughters!

Hi Jean, I didn't knew that Sophie was sick, hope she get better!
In life sometimes we discover that some people aren't what they seem.
But I think that this woman, she knows that she was wrong,Gosh, it's your daughter!

But isn't for a rock that we'll give up, it may take a while to take it away from the path, but when that finished, well, the road will be beatiful to walk!
A lot of hugs my friend!

Briks dijo...

Jean dijo...

Leo, you are so right... sometimes people forget to treat us as equals, human beings as themselves and thus do not show themselves as they really are. And thank you so much for your concern for my daughter.
And as regards the rocks along the path of life, my friend, I know what they are and have learnt to deal with them positively, and therefore patiently as well. I know life always gets better!!! Hugs, and take care!!

Not only where is the love, but where have the dreams gone... why have people stopped living, and enjoying life and the world around them... I could go on forever!!! Mi hija está mejor, muchas gracias por preocuparte... and I promise I will try to take cae of my health. Que tengas un lindísimo fin de semana!!! =)

Claudia dijo...

Besos grandes y buen finde!

Hope she is fine now and would have gotten rid of all swelling. After reading what i jus read i dont know whether to be worried cos sophie is not doin well or be happy that after all the things u had to go through you had such a wonderful friday, where your work and effort was appreciated that much. But i guess somebody has truly said that most of the beautiful things happens to you when u least expect them. I have seen it happening to me, ppl around me and now to you. What matters is how things ends and your day could`nt have ended in any better way than this. Hope with your good care, sophie will beat the illness (which she`ll surely) and with almighty`s grace you`ll beat all the odds that you face. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Have faith in yourself and jus remember that we should really be worried about what matters most to us. You just did right thing by taking day off to take good care of little angel when she needed you the most, so it should`nt matter what your school head thouht about u when u phoned her. And she did`nt turn out to be that bad also :). Thats really sweet of her. Sometimes one whom we think of as a problem actually turns out to be a help.
