Otro premio!

And the day of Sol's birthday has arrived! It is mid-afternoon at the moment, and I am at home, trying to finish with all the things I still have to get ready.
My daughters' birthdays are always a very special day. I like doing things properly, so as to show them, still in another way, how special they are to me!

This morning I brought Sol her breakfast to bed (which I try doing as often as I can) and she was extremely happy about it, as it was not just like any other breakfast. Her tray had a cupcake with a candle, some orange juice, toast, butter and jam, and a glass of milk. It warmed my heart to see how happy she felt about this!!

Sophia had been doing the countdown for the past week or so, and listening to her every morning, waking her sister up and telling her in the sweetest of voices, "Sol, it is only... days to your birthday!", has been breathtaking each and every time.

Last night, when they went to bed, Sophia told her sister to get ready, as it would be her birthday when they woke up to go to school. And to get ready as well for all the nice surprises that were in store for her.

How to explain both Sol's and MY surprise when Sophia woke up this morning the moment I called her, got up from bed, went to her wardrobe and took out a drawing she had prepared for her sister, together with a bag full of candies and chocolates, which she had gone to buy with one of her uncles, with her own savings!!!! And she had prepared the card at her uncle's house earlier yesterday when Sol and I had gone off to the shopping mall to finish buying what we needed to finish preparing the souvernirs for her friends.

What made both Sol and me the happiest was to learn that it had been all Sophia's idea!!!!
What else can I add, except that I love my daughters with all my heart?

A quote/ Una cita (IX)

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch,
a smile,
a kind word,
a listening ear,
an honest compliment,
or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Dr. Leo Buscaglia

Dr. Leo Buscaglia

Malvinas

I know that some who read this blog might not know what happened on the Malvinas Islands 26 years ago today. Guided by a military government which had been in power in Argentina for several years, and in a desperate try to make the Argentinean people to be on their side, this group of drunk and cruel people took our young boys to fight a useless war, a war which they knew so well would be a waste of so many lives. But it was necessary to win some prestige... and I sometimes think that they actually had NO idea who they were facing, believing that attacking by surprise would actually give them success.

The point is that I had lots of friends who had to go and fight... some did not come back, others did... and of those who came back home, two ended up taking their lives as they could not live with the memories. The others... well, they were NEVER the same. Because of this, I think they deserve all our respect, as they were boys in their late teens and had no idea what was going on or what fighting a war meant.

There are piles of monuments in our country on the war and remembering those who died in it. My ignorance had only allowed me to know of the one in Plaza San Martín, Buenos Aires. But I was lucky to come upon a blog in which many others have been presented to all of us who might not know of others. For those who are interested in seeing more munuments, I suggest you click on this link and discover others: http://ezenlaweb.com/comunidad/archives/monumentos-a-los-caidos-en-malvinas

And the photograph of the monument I have included at the beginning of this post can be found in the city of Necochea, and has not been included in the blog I have invited you to visit.
